23 officers to benefit as Anti-Corruption Workshop launched for Guyana Police Force
The Guyana Police Force continues to strengthen its institutional integrity with the launch of the Anti-Corruption Workshop 2026, which officially opened on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Officers’ Training Centre, Camp Road, Eve Leary, and will conclude on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
The training brings together twenty-three officers for specialised instruction under the U.S.-U.K. Criminal Justice Reform Programme, a collaborative initiative involving the United States Embassy Georgetown, and the British High Commission Georgetown.
Delivering brief remarks at the opening, Commissioner of Police, Mr. Clifton Hicken, emphasised the importance of ethical leadership and accountability within the Force. He quoted Abraham Lincoln, stating, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” The statement underscored the responsibility placed on officers who operate in positions of authority, and the need for sound decision-making.
The workshop is being facilitated by regional and international experts, including Sirah Abraham, Advisor to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, along with Alex Ferguson, and Nigel Parke, of Jamaica’s Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency.
Participants will engage in a structured programme covering key areas such as anti-corruption practices, Guyana’s legal framework for investigations and offences, and asset recovery. The sessions are designed to enhance both operational effectiveness, and investigative capacity.
The U.S.-U.K. Criminal Justice Reform Programme is a multi-year initiative focused on strengthening criminal justice systems across Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, with particular emphasis on policy development, legislative support, and institutional reform.
The Anti-Corruption Workshop 2026 forms part of ongoing efforts by the Guyana Police Force to improve transparency, accountability, and professionalism through strategic international partnerships, and targeted capacity-building initiatives.
