Police in Regional Division #8 (Potaro-Siparuni) are investigating an alleged serious wounding involving two miners that occurred sometime around 00:30 hours on Saturday at 111 Miles, Mahdia.
The two men, a 27-year-old male of North Sophia, Georgetown and a 33-year-old male of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown, were in the vicinity of a supermarket allegedly consuming alcoholic beverages when an argument ensued, which escalated into a physical altercation.
During the confrontation, both individuals sustained injuries inflicted with objects that are currently unknown.
They were initially treated at the Mahdia District Hospital and subsequently transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for further medical attention.
The 27-year-old sustained a fractured jaw and was later discharged on Saturday. He was arrested and remains in police custody.
Meanwhile, the 33-year-old sustained a fractured skull and remains hospitalised under police guard.
Police say CCTV cameras were observed and will be reviewed as investigations continue.
However, a video circulated on social media showed the two men covered in blood entangled in a scuffle on the ground.
