Following the death of Otis John Jordan Payne, 30, of South Haslington, East Coast Demerara, while in custody at the Cove and John Police Station, the Office of Professional Responsibility has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the matter.
As part of the ongoing probe, several Police and civilian witnesses have been interviewed and statements obtained.
In the meantime, two ranks attached to the said station have been placed under close arrest and are assisting with the investigation.
The Guyana Police Force wishes to assure the public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it warrants, and that all necessary procedures are being followed as the investigation continues.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Investigations are ongoing.
