A 17-year-old is now dead while his colleague, another 17-year-old is injured following an accident at Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Friday last.
Dead is Ronaldo Lall, son of former Minister Kellawan Lall, who resided at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Lall was the pillion rider of a motorcycle driven by 17-year-old Sean Bourne of Lusignan, ECD, when the accident occurred.
Police said the bike was proceeding along the Eccles Public Road, at a fast rate and in a zig-zig manner – in and out of lanes, overtaking vehicles.
As the bike overtook motorcar – PAJ 7247 – the motorcyclist collided with a concrete median, resulting in both riders falling onto the roadway.
The driver of the motorcar, upon seeing this, applied brakes but the vehicle drove over the two teens on the roadway.
Both Bourne and Lall were picked up in conscious states by the driver of the car and public-spirited persons and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Center. Bourne was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was admitted as a patient for fractured ribs and abrasions about the body. His condition is regarded as critical.
Lall was self-discharged by relatives from the hospital and transported to the Woodlands Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The 20-year-old driver of the motorcar was escorted to the Providence Police Station where he was placed into custody, assisting with the investigation.
