The community of Cabrora, located in Moruca, Region One (Barima-Waini), now has improved water access following the commissioning of a $15 million water supply system earlier today.
The system was commissioned by the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, along with Regional Vice-Chairman, Annansha Peters; Director of Hinterland Services at the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), Ramchand Jailal, other officials and residents.

Cabrora has a population of some 400 residents, and is divided into three sections: Upper, Central and Lower Cabrora. Prior to this project, the community relied on a well in Lower Cabrora, and a distribution network in Central Cabrora connected to the Santa Rosa Water Supply System.
The new system, now operational in Lower Cabrora, is positioned next to the Huradiah, Koko, and Cabrora junction.
Minister Croal stated that the project is another significant milestone in government’s commitment to ensuring that every Guyanese, regardless of geographical location, has access to clean and reliable water.
He further noted that the new water supply system in Cabrora will not only improve the quality of life for residents but also help foster a healthier, more sustainable community.

The project, which was executed by GWI in collaboration with local community members, involved the drilling of a 6-inch PVC water well, the installation of approximately 3 kilometers of distribution network, and the construction of a photovoltaic pumping system. In addition, a 25ft by 25ft chainlink fence was erected to secure the infrastructure, and standpipes and service connections were installed.
Approximately 200 residents and 40 households are the direct beneficiaries of this water system, with about 70% of the community now having access to potable water. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to improve access to essential services and better the quality of life for Guyanese citizens.
