The latest statistics released by the Guyana Police Force (GPF) indicate that 130 murders were committed between January 1 and December 31, 2025. Statistics showed that there was an increase of murder by 13 when compared to 2024, with 117 reported cases.
This represents an 11.1 per cent increase.
In addition, the police reported that only five robberies were committed in 2025, compared to 13 in 2024. Further, there have been 204 reported cases of armed robberies where a firearm was used in 2025, compared to 289 in 2024.
However, armed robberies involving other instruments showed that 58 of those were committed in 2025, compared to 82 in 2024.
The GPF further reported that 29 cases of robbery with violence, 12 robberies with aggravation, and 23 larcenies from persons were committed in 2025. These also represent a decrease from reported cases in 2024.
There have been 209 reported cases of rape in 2025, compared to 239 in 2024 – a 12.6 percent decrease when compared to 2024. With respect to burglaries, 23 cases were reported for 2025, compared to 77 in 2024.
The police also reported that there have been 227 cases of break and enter and larceny in 2025 – a reduction from 2024, which had 318 cases. There have been no reports of kidnapping in 2025, with one case reported in 2024.
The data reflects notable decreases in several major offense categories, including robbery, burglary, break and enter and larceny, rape, and kidnapping, indicating positive trends in crime reduction efforts across the country.
Overall, serious crimes declined from 1,235 cases in 2024 to 920 cases in 2025, representing a 25.5 per cent reduction.
