Tragedy struck on Thursday night when 18-year-old Jerroy Gorden, a construction worker from Lichfield Village, was beaten to death by a mob in Number 40 Village, West Coast Berbice.
According to reports, Jerroy and his 16-year-old brother had travelled four villages away to purchase food. Upon arrival, they discovered their motorbike had run out of gasoline. The younger brother left briefly to call home for assistance from their sister’s nearby house.
When he returned, he saw Jerroy with a man who had provided him with gasoline.
Shortly after, a group of over five young men, allegedly known to the brothers, attacked Jerroy. His younger brother later found him lying motionless at the scene.
Family members believe the attack may be linked to a long-standing feud between Jerroy and some members of the group. His sister confirmed the dispute had been ongoing for over a year.
Police have since arrested several individuals in connection with the killing, and investigations are continuing.
