Update: GDF rank involved in Linden fatal accident placed on $100K station bail


See updated statement from the Guyana Police Force:
Police in Regional Division #10, are prohing a Fatal Accident that occurred at about 01:40hrs on Saturday May 3rd, 2025 on Burnham Drive Public Road, Wismar, Linden, which resulted in the death of motorcyclist, 23-year-old Kellon Sumner of Lot 2046 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the motorcar PWW 2029, driven by 48-year-old Courtney Mendonca, a Guyana Defence Force Lieutenant Colonel, was proceeding south along Burnham Drive Public Road and in the process of negotiating a right turn, Sumner who was driving motorcycle CP 6059 proceeding north allegedly at a fast rate, collided with the left side front (door) of the car.
The motorcyclist who was not wearing a safety helmet, fell onto road surface receiving injuries. He was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
The body of the deceased is at the Linden Senior Citizens Association Funeral Home’s Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Both motor vehicles were lodged at the Wismar Police Station to be examined by a licensing and certifying officer.
Breathalyzer tests conducted on the driver of PWW 2029, showed readings of .045 BAC and .041 BAC, respectively.
Courtney Mendonca was placed on $100,000.00 bail as investigation continues.
