Several injured in 3-vehicle collision at UG Access Road; victim reportedly robbed while unconscious

Several persons were this morning injured in a horrific three-vehicle collision on the University of Guyana Access Road, Greater Georgetown, after a speeding white car reportedly jumped the central median and crashed into oncoming traffic.
The crash occurred on the westbound carriageway leading to Georgetown. According to eyewitnesses and one of the drivers involved, the speeding white car was heading east towards the East Coast Demerara when it suddenly crossed over the partition separating the dual carriageway and slammed into a car travelling in the opposite direction.
The impact sent that first vehicle hurtling forward, colliding with a third car in the process.
The first vehicle, which had a lone male occupant, was extensively damaged.
It was reported that the driver of the speeding car was thrown violently from his seat and is said to be in a critical condition.
It was also reported that the driver of the second vehicle appeared to have suffered broken limbs. He was pulled from the wreckage by public-spirited citizens and placed into a passing vehicle to be taken to the hospital.
The eyewitness further told this publication that during the chaotic scene, one of the injured driver’s gold chain, iPhone, and wallet were allegedly stolen. This victim was reportedly unconscious.
Relatives who later arrived on the scene said all his valuables had disappeared by the time they arrived.
The third vehicle, the one struck by the second car after the initial collision, was pitched into a nearby trench. That car had two occupants, including the driver. Both were injured, and the driver complained of severe chest pain.
The condition of all the injured parties remains unclear, but eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic and traumatic.
Police are investigating the incident.
