Probe launched into incident at Bartica stelling; service continues without delay – T&HD

The Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) has launched an investigation into the incident at the Bartica Stelling this morning, which resulted in a truck slipping off a loading ramp.
The incident occurred at around 10:45hrs.
According to a statement from T&HD, the incident occurred while a heavy-laden truck which was transported from Parika to Bartica on board the M.V. Malali was being offloaded.
“The truck was one of the eighteen (18) vehicles, occupying 31 spaces aboard the vessel,” the department noted.
INews understands that the ramp was not properly secured to the ferry, thus resulting in its destabilisation as the vehicle proceeded to exit the vessel.
“The line from the ferry is supposed to pull stiff, so that when the truck coming off now, there’s no movement outwards into the stream…So what happened, because they probably didn’t pull the line stiff enough to stabilise the ferry, so you find the truck coming off,” Bartica’s Mayor Anthony Murray explained to this publication.
The situation was immediately addressed and the operations at the stelling quickly returned to normalcy, the mayor noted.
According to T&HD, the service on the Bartica to Parika route continues without delay.
No significant damages or injuries were reported.
