President Dr Irfaan Ali today signed proclamations to dissolve the 12th Parliament and the Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs) for the ten Administrative Regions.
This paves the way for the holding of General and Regional Elections on September 1.
“The upcoming elections represent our country’s commitment to renewing the democratic covenant between its citizens and government,” President Ali said after he signed the proclamations at State House, in keeping with the Constitution of Guyana.
He also urged all eligible citizens to participate in the process, saying “I urge all Guyanese to participate in the upcoming elections and, in so doing, be part of this critical decision-making process of the State.”
The President also urged citizens to support the work of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
