Recent developments in the political landscape have proven that the Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) is the only political force with integrity that can be trusted to take Guyana forward, according to Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall.

He was at the time commenting on the various crossovers, coalitions and collaborations among political parties within the opposition.

He referred to the exit of Alliance For Change (AFC) members Juretha Fernandes, Sherod Duncan and Deonarine “Ricky” Ramsaroop from that party to join the Peoples National Congress-led A Partnership for National Unity (APNU). He also questioned the rationale of the trio threatening to sue the AFC for expelling them after news of their crossovers were made public.

“Perhaps they are collating and maybe that is why they want to remain in the AFC while they move across to the PNC or to APNU, maybe it’s a coalition in their minds…the only difference now is that in this coalition, they have excluded Nigel Hughes, Khemraj Ramjattan, Raphael Trotman, David Patterson and Beverly Alert – the other members of the AFC…,” Nandlall questioned during his programme “Issues in the News” on Tuesday evening.

Whatever the rationale, he expressed “what is clear is that the AFC is in complete shambles and chaos.”

The Attorney General also referenced the resignation of Amanza Walton-Desir from the PNC/APNU to form her own political party called Forward Guyana which has since signed a coalition agreement with two small and new political movements called the Peoples Movement and the Vigilant Political Action Committee.

“In my respectful view, three zeroes equal zero,” Nandlall commented on that development.

He also highlighted the partnership between the Mark France-led A New and United Guyana (ANUG) with US-sanctioned Azruddin Mohamed-led We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), prompting founding members of ANUG – Ralph Ramkarran and Timthoy Jonas to announce their resignations.

“[They are] saying it is not a coalition, it is a collaboration…but in their collaboration, ANUG disappears and WIN is the only entity,” Nandlall reflected with amusement.

He also made mention of other resignations from AFC and PNC/APNU members, who have cited various issues with their respective political parties ranging from racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, leadership concerns, among others.

In this regard, Nandlall boasted that the PPP/C is the only political force in the country that citizens can trust.

“There is one party that is standing stronger than ever, like the Rock of Gibraltar and that is the Peoples Progressive Party/Civic. We are not changing names, all we are doing is welcoming everyone on board,” Nandlall expressed.

“As we are succeeding, we see the political opposition among us disintegrating,” he added.

According to Nandlall, the PPP is not complacent and truly believes it deserves a second term.

“We have a track record of achievements. We have a president who is visionary and we have delivered on our promises and we are the only political force with integrity and we are the only political party that can be trusted with the future of this country and we have a track record of accomplishments to back that up. It’s not a statement in abstract and it’s not an idealistic statement; it’s a statement that is supported by a long track record of achievements both in and out of government.”
