Men remanded on cybercrime charges for threats to kill President, burn public property

Emmanuel Rogers, 24, was remanded to prison on cybercrime charges for allegedly threatening to kill the president and burn public property.

He is charged with using a computer system to encourage or incite persons to commit a criminal offence against the President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, in contravention of the Cyber Crime Act.

He is also charged with using a computer system to incite a terrorist act, in contravention of the of the Cyber Crime Act.

Rogers allegedly committed the crimes via social media platform, TikTok on April 28^th, 2025 at New Prospect Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

Rogers, a self-employed delivery driver and labourer of New Prospect Housing Scheme, EBD, was arrested by ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department’s Headquarter.

He appeared at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court today and was not required to plead to the indictable charges. The matter has been adjourned until May 23.

Meanwhile, 43-year-old Azriel Ashby was slapped with a similar charge under the Cybercrime Act.

It is alleged that Ashby, via social media platform TikTok between April 27th and 28th, 2025 at Go Slow Avenue, Tucville, Georgetown, used a computer system to incite a terrorist act to burn Sophia Road, Weldaad, Paradise, Eldorado and other places.

Ashby, a security guard of El Dorado Village, West Coast Berbice, was arrested by ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department’s Headquarters.

He appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court today where he pleaded not guilty. Bail was denied and the accused was remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned until May 28.
