A 46-year-old welder of Plantation Farm, East Bank Demerara, was on Saturday evening robbed of his gold chain by two bandits on a motorcycle.
The incident occurred at around 18:02 hours at Nelson Mandela Avenue and Hibiscus Street, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
At the time, the victim was in front of a shop when the two suspects, who were on a black Honda XR motorcycle, approached from a northern direction.
Police say the pillion rider reportedly dismounted the motorcycle and held onto the victim’s yellow metal chain. A scuffle then ensued between the two during which the suspect allegedly discharged two rounds in the air.
The suspect eventually relieved the victim of the chain, valued at $500,000, rejoined the motorcycle and escaped in an eastern direction along Nelson Mandela Avenue.
The scene was processed, and two 9mm spent shells were recovered and lodged.
CCTV cameras were observed in the area and will be reviewed.
No arrest has been made. Investigations are ongoing.
