News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, May 12, 2017: Recently, we set out to locate Caribbean food in some of the U.S. states with the highest percentage of whites, thinking it was a near to impossible task. But we did find brave Caribbean entrepreneurs who have branched out and are unafraid to take their cuisine with them to states with a population of 90 percent Caucasians, who many times had never tried Caribbean food. Here is a guide to finding Caribbean delights in these states, should you live there and crave Caribbean food or find yourself there looking for some:

In Maine, you can find authentic Caribbean/Jamaican food at Jamaican Jerk Center at 1400 US Rt 1, Cape Neddick, Maine. However, it is a seasonal roadside shack that operates only in the summer. Still it offers up jerk chicken, pork, and ribs as well as goat curry, oxtail, fried yellow plantains, patties and ackee and saltfish. Hit it on Fridays to make sure you get the terrific escoveitched  red snapper.  Great reggae music blares on the outdoor speakers and its picnic table seating under a tent outside and cash only.

New Hampshire

In New Hampshire, you will find the Jamaican-owned Sunshine Cookshop Jamaican Style at 145 Pleasant St., Claremont, NH. Here you can get oxtails, rice and peas and plantains rice and beans as well as jerk chicken and curry chicken from Chef Errol Letman.

In Iowa, you can find Caribbean food on the Island Vybz Mobile Rasta-rant food truck that is often in Iowa City, IA. Here you can get a twist on the cuisine in the form of a jerk chicken Caesar wrap with a side of plantains. There is also pork wraps as well as Jerk Pork and a Jerk Chicken Quesadilla.

In Idaho, you will get Spanish Caribbean food from Cuba at Casa Blanca Cuban Grill at 5506 W Overland Rd. Boise, ID. There is of course black beans as well as pollo asado, tostones con mojo and croquetas among other Cuban delights and the price is very reasonable here given the huge portions.

Craving Caribbean food in Kentucky? Head to Roof Top Grill at 708 Louis Coleman Jr Dr. in Louisville, KY. They have married the Caribbean to match a southern palate with dishes like jerk beef tips, cabbage and greens but there is also authentic rice and beans, jerk chicken, curry chicken and oxtails.

North Dakota

In North Dakota, at 30 N University Dr, Fargo, ND, you will find Daran’s  Southern Soul Food & West Indian Cuisine. The owner’s roots go to Guyana so the menu includes curry chicken as well as southern dishes like fried chicken, ribs and fried cat fish.
