Deadly Mahaica crash: Driver of parked truck in custody – Police

Police have arrested the driver of the truck, which was parked on the side of the Good Hope public road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, last evening and resulted in the death of Kevindra Tularam, a 43-year-old resident of Lot 20 David Rose Scheme, Unity, ECD.

According to the driver, he parked the truck on the side of the road with the hazard lights on to check on a mechanical issue, when Tularam’s motorcar crashed into the back of the truck.

Dead: Kevindra Tularam

Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at about 18:50hrs yesterday (Saturday, 05th June 2025) at Good Hope public road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

The accident involved a motor lorry #GAF 4657, owned by a 44-year-old resident of Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, and driven by a 29-year-old truck driver from Tabatinga, Central Rupununi in Lethem, Region #9; and motor vehicle #PNN 6925, owned and driven by Kevindra Tularam (now deceased), a 43-year-old resident of Lot 20 David Rose Scheme, Unity, East Coast Demerara.

Enquiries disclosed that the lorry (# GAF 4657) was stationary on the Good Hope Railway Embankment road at Mahaica, facing west along the southern side of the road, where it was alleged that ”

As a result of the collision, Tularam received injuries on his body. He was taken out of his vehicle by public-spirited persons, placed into a Police vehicle and taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a Doctor on duty, who pronounced him dead on arrival. The body is at the said Hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

A breathalyser test was conducted on the lorry driver, and no alcohol was found on his breath. The driver was placed in police custody, pending investigation.
