

The Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department has launched a formal investigation into a tragic workplace accident that resulted in the death of Chinese national, Mr. Eddie Yang, a resident of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.
The incident occurred on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at approximately 11:46 PM, at a storage facility operated by Zheng Xin Aluminium Alloy Doors and Windows Processing Factory, located at Lot 26 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara. According to reports, a large quantity of glass stored in a 40-foot container at the front of the premises unexpectedly collapsed, trapping Mr. Yang beneath it.
Co-workers at the scene quickly raised an alarm and worked to rescue Mr. Yang, subsequently transporting him to a nearby healthcare facility. Sadly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Chapter 99:06 of the Laws of Guyana, the Ministry has initiated an investigation led by Senior Occupational Safety and Health Officer Mr. Darwin Bourne and OSH Officer Mr. Ray Hosannah. The investigation aims to determine the cause of the incident and to ensure full compliance with safety regulations at the workplace.
The Honourable Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, once more extends heartfelt sympathy to the grieving relatives, co-workers, and friends of Mr Yang.
He also takes this opportunity to remind employers and workers of the importance and need for good safety and health practices in the workplace so that similar incidents/accidents that can result in the loss of lives of loved ones can be avoided. [Ministry of Labour]
