𝑼𝒑𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆: 𝑭𝒂𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑹𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝑴𝒊𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒑 𝒏𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝑻𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒓 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝑪𝒖𝒚𝒖𝒏𝒊 𝑹𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓
The death toll from a boat mishap in the Cuyuni River on Thursday last, which took the life of the boat captain, has gone up after a passenger who was critically injured succumbed.
Dead is Enzo Mateus Alves De Aviz, a 23-year-old Brazilian national and gold miner of Tipir Backdam and Belem City, Para State, Brazil.
The fatal river mishap occurred at about 12:45 hours on Thursday in the vicinity of Tapir Landing, Cuyuni River in Region Seven and resulted in the death of the 57-year-old boat captain, Steve Daniels, of Kartabo Village, Lower Mazaruni River. One of the occupants in the vessel was also injured during the incident.
According to police reports, De Aviz was initially admitted at the Bartica Regional Hospital in a serious condition following the incident and was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation on Friday for further medical treatment. However, around 22:00 hours on the said date, while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, De Aviz succumbed to his injuries.
His body is presently at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
