The Main Caribbean Countries For Transshipment

While
the Economic
Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, (ECLAC) said last week
that the export values of 13 of the 16 countries of the Caribbean are
projected to grow, driven mainly by volume expansion in its latest report,
“International Trade Outlook for Latin America and the Caribbean 2019,” the
spotlight puts the emphasis squarely on transshipment from the region and where
it stacks up.

Here are the Top Caribbean countries for
Transshipment according to ECLAC that you should know:

1: The Bahamas

2: Jamaica

3: Aruba

4: The Dominican Republic

5: Guadeloupe

6: Trinidad and Tobago

7: Martinique

8: Barbados

Global container trade represents an important
contribution to regional trade. The region also occupies a central position on
major global trade routes, with some of the region’s ports strategically placed
and playing an important role in container transshipment. In fact, transshipment
represents 22% of all port movements in the Caribbean. In
two countries of the region – The Bahamas and Jamaica – transshipment
represents over 80 percent of the country’s total throughput.
