Well doctors for Jair Bolsonaro performed another major surgery to repair adhesions in his intestinal walls caused by the stabbing.
The 63-year-old remains in intensive care following the attack by a lone assailant. He suffered a deep and life-threatening wound to his intestines and lost 40 percent of his blood.
With the first round of the presidential election less than a month away, it is now highly unlikely Bolsonaro will be able to take part in any campaign events. Bolsonaro widely leads polls for a first-round vote, but would lose to most rivals in an expected Oct. 28th run-off ballot required, if no candidate wins a majority.
Videos posted online showed Bolsonaro was being carried on his supporters’ shoulders in a large crowd, when someone stabbed him in the abdomen.
Police promptly arrested the suspect identified as 40-year-old Adelio Bispo de Oliveira, who was immediately grabbed by Bolsonaro’s supporters.
According to local media, the attacker is an assiduous Bible reader and has a history of family violence. His Facebook page is full of criticism of Bolsonaro and other politicians and also conspiracy theories.
